i live here.

That’s life, right, Frankie? You’re riding high in April, shot down in May. Only we’re not all back on top come June.

I Live Here combines Mia Kirshner’s travel journals with writings by author J.B. MacKinnon and Adbusters creatives Paul Shoebridge and Michael Simons to create a book — really four artistic journals — chronicling true stories of displaced peoples from different corners of the world.

A story of Chechen women is underscored by cartoon journalist Joe Sacco’s drawings. Artist Kamel Khelif illustrates interviews with Burmese sex workers. A tale of missing Mexican women is made more harrowing when told by the mother of a young girl. And AIDS takes on the youthful face of orphans in Malawi.

Available on Amazon, reading these stories benefits Amnesty International and makes your own plight seem pretty slight.

After all, you can just pick yourself up and get back in your place.

Tara Llanes Fundraiser!

Tara Llanes. Man, this amazing girl has been dealt a rough hand. But nonetheless, she keeps her head held high and her spirit alive. She just found out her insurance won’t cover the surgery she has been anticipating for a while now. It is supposed to help with her pain. I mean, come awn… who doesn’t know pain? Those of us who push ourselves, we know what a bruise, road rash, broken bones, or 13 stitches feel like. Well I tell you what, it is nothing like the pain Tara is living with. I don’t know it first hand and I can only hope I never do. But what I do know is that she needs our help, so get beyond yourself [and your credit card bills] and buy a raffle ticket for her fundraiser... Tara needs us more than ever. Don’t let her down.

Born in September?

WHO: Anyone with a birthday in September, or anyone wanting to help bring clean water to those without it.
WHAT: charity: water is a non-profit bringing safe, clean drinking water to people in developing nations. This year they have put together a campaign to bring clean and safe drinking water to the people of Ethiopia. Thousands of people are giving up their birthday gifts this year and asking for small donations to help people in need. 100% of the money raised will go directly to building wells. All you need to do is create your own page here and tell people why they should donate money instead of giving you a gift this year.
HOW: Please join us in supporting this cause. You can check out the photos and videos, and sign up to help at borninseptember.org.
WHY: Right now, 1.1 Billion people on the planet don’t have access to safe water. Kinda makes me wish I was born in September, but I wasn’t. So I donated $33 for Scott Harrison’s 33rd birthday. You should too.
